Google Docs is an online document creating and editing
software. In this platform, multiple users can work at the same time. It is the
best alternative to Microsoft word. You can do commenting, chatting, and real-time
editing when you are creating documents. In addition, you can export docx, pdf,
odt, rtf, txt, and html files from this software.
When you are designing a document such as composing a letter
or article or writing an essay, there could be a chance that you would need to
use subscript or superscript. Although it is very easy to insert them in google
docs, it could be difficult for those people who are beginners.
Additionally, there are some dissimilarities between online google docs and its android app. In this article, we are going to discuss several methods through which you can add subscript and superscript in google docs and its android app version. You can use the Table of Contents below in case you want to skip any part.
Subscript and Superscript
Subscript can be a symbol, a letter, or a number that is
used at the bottom of another character. The subscript is comparably smaller
than the main character. For example, in X1, X is the main character
and ‘1’ is subscript. This type of symbol is mostly used in Mathematics and
Physics.
Inserting subscript and superscript in Google Docs
There are some methods through which we can add subscript
and superscript in google docs. We can add it manually or we can also use
shortcut keyboard codes for it. Now, we are going to discuss all methods in detail.
On desktop and computer
On PC or desktop, you can use google docs by visiting its
official website or you can simply search it on google. After visiting its
official website and opening a new document we can compose our document. There
are two methods through which we can add subscript and superscript in google
docs.
Using format option
We can insert subscript and superscript using the format
option. Look at the document below. I need to change ‘st’ to superscript in the first line and ‘1’ to subscript in the second line.
First, select the characters which you want to change in
superscript. In my case, I select ‘st’.
Choose Format >
Text > Superscript from the top menu.
Now, you can see that ‘st’
is changed into superscript.
In a similar way, we can change ‘1’ to the superscript in the second line.
Using insert option
Go to the Insert
option from the top menu and select Special
Characters.
Then, change the third option ‘Arrows’ by clicking on it.
Now, choose the Subscript
option.
After that, you see some symbols and numbers are available
to use as subscripts. Choose the required character to insert it.
You can insert superscript by selecting Insert > Special Characters > Superscript in the third
option.
On Android app
It is a little bit confusing to find subscript and superscript options in the android app as compared to desktop. I am going to use the same document in the android app.
First, select the characters required to make superscript, and choose the A≡ option from the above menu. Now, you can see some options for text. Select ‘X2’ to make the selected
character superscript.
You can select ‘X2’
for subscript.
Using shortcut keyword
For windows, android, and chrome OS ‘Ctrl + .’ can be used for superscript and ‘Ctrl + ,’ for subscript. However, the keyboard shortcut is
different for Mac OS. For Mac OS, iPad, and iPhone ‘Command + .’ for superscript, and ‘Command + ,’ for subscript.
