How to recover unsaved word document [Easy steps with pictures]



It is necessary to save word documents in regular intervals of time when we are creating a file in Microsoft word. There are several causes due to which we could lose our whole file if it is not saved. For example, sometime PC and Microsoft could stop working due to technical errors.

 

In that situation, we can lose our whole work, if the file is not saved. So, we should save our word files regularly. It is easy to save the document, for it, we can use the ‘Save’ option or ‘Ctrl + S’. Although, sometimes we could forget to save the large file.

 

In that case, we lose our all work and we should start our work again. Luckily, an option is available in Microsoft word through which we can recover our unsaved documents. In this article, we will discuss that method.

In this article, I am using a document with dummy texts to show how this method work. I will exit from this document without saving it.





 

Recovering the Unsaved Document

 

Now, I open the same document. You can clearly see that the document is blank because it was not saved previously. To recover the previous file, first, go to the 'File' option.




 

Then, go to the Info > Manage Versions. Here, you can find the previous file which was not saved. Just click on that file and click on ‘Restore’ to recover that file.





 


After that, the system will ask for your confirmation. Click on ‘Ok’ to confirm it. Now, your file is restored. Go to View > Edit document to edit that document.




 


Finally, the unsaved word document has been recovered.



 

This technique works even if you shut down your PC. But, it does not work in a sudden power cut, so it is best to save your file in regular intervals to secure it.
